No this is not used to find water underground

Well the shape of this remind of a ancient method using a stick like this to find the water flow under ground. Guess i was wrong as this is something related to technology.

There are tons of Wi-Fi hotspots these days that are mushrooming rapidly and for good reason - most people work with netbooks and notebooks that do not need to remain tethered to any wired network in order to get on the Internet. In order to find the nearest Wi-Fi hotspot, why not give the Wi-Fi Dowsing Rod concept a go? It works similar in concept to how one is supposed to look for water with a divining rod, except that this one brings you to the nearest Wi-Fi hotspot - a gadget for the modern road warrior, of course, shaped in an old school format. Fancy, but we don't see this taking off anytime soon even if it were to be mass produced.

Wall-E Computer Case MOD

Everyone who watched Wall-E when they went to see it in theaters last year should have enjoyed it. After it came out there were lots of different homemade Wall-E’s floating around the internet. However, this Wall-E case mod definitely takes the cake.

Apparently some Russian guy went and saw the movie, and decided that he absolutely had to have a Wall-E computer. He’s a pretty cool little robot, so I can understand putting in a little effort and making something decent looking. However, this guy went the whole nine yards. He flawlessly fashioned the entire thing from sheet metal.

XboX Live will be live this Holiday

It looks like Microsoft doesn't want a repeat of last year's post-holiday Xbox Live outages, when the service was basically unusable for two weeks -- according to 360 product manager Aaron Greenberg, MS is "well prepared for the type of growth we expect this holiday," and that more Live staffers than ever before will be on hand to fix things if things do go bonkers. From what we've heard Live is more robust than ever now that the NXE and the associated backend changes have been rolled out, so we're hoping things go well -- but we wouldn't necessarily say no to another free Arcade game.

Facebook under koobface attack

Researchers say that the 'Koobface' worm - which has been circulating through the popular social networking service, Facebook - is still on the loose, despite Facebook's efforts of cleaning up the mess.

Craig Schmugar, a threat researcher at McAfee Inc, was one of the first security researchers to notice Koobface's spread on Wednesday, and notify Facebook. This attack on the world's most popular social networking site, and its 120 million users, came within weeks of Facebook winning an $873 million lawsuit against people accused of hacking user accounts and spreading spam.

Schmugar said Koobface is a variant of one that hit MySpace, last August. Though the earlier version targeted both MySpace and Facebook, the new one has focused only on the latter. There are more than two dozen variants of the worm in circulation.

Koobface generates spammed links that lead to various compromised host sites, which appear to serve a video. The user receives a fake error message, saying that the version of Adobe Flash installed on his or her computer is out of date, thereby prompting the download of an update.

The update is malicious software that can easily by changed by those behind the attacks to exploit any of a variety of security vulnerabilities. At the moment, it installs a proxy server called tinyproxy. exe and a service called Security Accounts Manager that loads the proxy server at startup. According to Schmugar, the server listens on TCP port 9090 and scans all HTTP traffic to intercept search results for the purpose of ad hijacking and click fraud.

Acknowledging the worm's attack, Facebook has posted a short message on its security page. The instructions urge users, whose accounts had already been compromised, to remove the 'Koobface' virus thus: 'give your computer an antivirus scrub-down and change your Facebook password'.

Frozen Mouse cloned - Whats Next ?

Japanese Scientists have successfully cloned a mouse which has be frozen for 16 years. taking a step in the long impossible dream of bringing back extinct animals such as mammoths.

Scientists at the government-backed research institute Riken used the dead cell of a mouse that had been preserved at minus minus 4 degrees Fahrenheit -- a temperature similar to frozen ground.

The scientists hope that the first-of-a-kind research will pave the way to restore extinct animals such as the mammoth.

The findings were published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences in the United States.

Searching Online Can help your Brain get stronger

According to latest results set to be published on the American Journal for Geriatric Psychiatry, Internet searches can actually help strengthen the aging brain - thanks to the greater mental "activity" that it undergoes while waiting for the search results and the following "scan".

Studies in the past have shown that any mentally tasking act has the capability to change the way the brain responds to the task. This is known to create a "mental reserve" that comes in handy when the brain is subjected to insult and injury. Additionally, this increase in the mental reserve is reportedly capable of lessening the effects of the inevitable - mental aging.

A recent research conducted to verify these claims threw in some interesting results. Expensive MRI equipments were used to monitor the cranial activity of two sets of people: Internet regulars and novices. As for on what basis the teams have been classified in to "regulars" and novices", regulars were those who went online at least once daily, while the novices were the ones who have never been online or use the Internet once or twice in a month.
