Building Material of the future

ETFE (Ethylene Tetrafluoroethylene) is the building material of the future. This wonder polymer, a transparent plastic related to Teflon is replacing glass and plastic in some of the most innovative buildings being designed and constructed today. Its selling points? Compared to glass, it's 1% the weight, transmit more light, is a better insulator and costs 24 - 70% less to install. It's also resilient able to bear 400 times its own weight, self cleaning because of its non-stick surface and 100% recyclable.

The current largest ETFE construction projects are the Beijing National Stadium and Aquatics Center for the 2008 Olympics. They will be the strongest and most energy efficient buildings in the world.

River Dolphins declared EXTINCT

I'm sad to report the beautiful River Dolphin has been officially declared extinct. The small cetacean made its home in China's Yangtze river but over development and over fishing has destroyed much of the dolphin's food supply and habitat. They were classified as endangered last year but an expedition this year was unable to yield any of them. Although there are bound to be a handful left, the definition of extinct extends to the fact that there aren't enough of them left to sustain a viable genetic pool.

The Chinese know the dolphin as Baiji and there are tons of folk-tales about a friendly fish that understood humans because it could breathe air. Unfortunately future generations will never see the Baiji in person. What a shame. What a waste.

"The harms to the environment humans have inflicted during the past few centuries is much more than 10,000 years of natural history. Are we really becoming stronger or are we blind to see we are becoming weaker?"

Purple Frog - Found in INDIA

It’s got to be weird how after hundreds if not thousands of years that we keep finding different types of creatures and this time it’s the purple frog delights scientists.

This is one of the strangest looking frogs ever discovered and has been put in its own taxonomic family, chubby and 7cm long the amphibian was found hopping around in western India.
Scientists named it Nasikabatrachus sahyadrensis (they love their names), other than looking a bit weird this flog is a really important find for scientists for many reasons including how it tells us about Earth history and the early evolution of advanced frogs.

Australian Bulldog Ant - A Killer

This is the Australian Bulldog Ant. Bull ants are among the largest of any any species....They are a primitive species which use their large and powerful mandibles sed to grab food and to fight off predators. They also have a very vicious and enomous sting which they use to kill prey and to defend themselves. The sting from bulldog ant will raise a very nasty welt on animals. It stings and bites at the same time and has killed humans.

They have different ants within the colony which perform the various duties which are necessary to make up a smooth running existence.
Ants are one of the most efficient and social insects in the world, and the bulldog ant are generally brown, red and/or black and measure up to 1 1/2 inches in length (the largest of any ant species).

Google phone coming in two weeks?

Talk of a possible Google phone kicked up again Friday with new rumors coming out of India that the phone could be launched within two weeks.

Rediff.com reported that Google is in talks with two of the three top mobile providers in India, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Essar, to offer the new "Gphone." The article cites unnamed sources who say the phone will also be launched simultaneously in the U.S. and Europe. The only remaining hurdle in the U.S., the story said, is approval from the Federal Communications Commission, which must certify any wireless device sold in the U.S.

Google isn't commenting on the rumors, saying in a statement that the company "is committed to providing users with access to the world's information, and mobile becomes more important to those efforts every day."

Before you get too excited and start queuing up somewhere for one of these phones, let me explain why I think the rumors are bogus. For one, Google has never actually confirmed that it's working on building its own handset. Even though it sounds really cool and sexy for the company to pull an "Apple" by building its own hardware, it just doesn't fit into Google's business model, which is to develop software applications for the Web as a way to sell more advertising.

Google executives, including Chris Sacca, head of special initiatives at Google, have said publicly that they think there is plenty of competition and innovation in the handset market.

"I think there is a healthy environment of competition and innovation in the device market worldwide," Sacca said in an interview with CNET News.com last month. "It's just the channel that discourages that kind of innovation here in the U.S."

And just this week, Marissa Mayer, Google's vice president of search products and user experience, showed off how well Google's applications worked on her iPhone. So I just don't see any reason why Google would want to build an "iPhone-killer."

That said, there's no question Google is hot for mobile. The company has introduced several new mobile products this year. And CEO Eric Schmidt recently said the company will likely participate in the upcoming 700MHz spectrum auction early in 2008. Exactly what it will do with the spectrum if its wins licenses is unknown.

I think what's more likely is that Google is working with a hardware partner to develop a smart phone that's optimized and preloaded with lots of Google applications. My guess is that the supposed prototypes that The Wall Street Journal and others have mentioned in recent articles may be mockups the company has developed with partners to demonstrate and test new applications.

So could a Google-powered device made by unknown hardware partners really be ready for launch in two weeks? I think that's probably a little too soon. I checked the FCC Web site Friday and Google has not registered any product to be tested with the FCC. Of course, if Google is working with a partner, as I have suggested above, the phone could be registered in the FCC files under a different company's name.

My gut feeling is that these Google-loaded phones will likely be introduced a little later this year and into early next year. But stay tuned. I'll definitely be watching to see how Google's ongoing mobile strategy evolves.

Nintendo - What does this word mean

A friend recently asked me if I'm a hardcore gamer. I answered yes since I spend a considerable amount of my time and money playing and buying video games. I stay abreast on the latest gaming news and although I like casual games, I sometimes prefer more in depth and epic experiences.

Then I was asked what Nintendo meant. DAMN! I know how old Nintendo is (118 years old) and that the company was founded making playing cards. In regard to this question, all my hardcoreness didn't amount to a hill-of-beans so I had to do some research. This is what I discovered.

The word Nintendo is an amalgamation of 3 symbols: nin, meaning "leave to"; ten, for "heaven"; and do, "company". That translates to "the company that leaves to heaven" or more poetically, "take care of every detail, and heaven will take care of the rest."

Nintendo Games on IPHONE

Iphone Nes

Yes somebody has written an NES emulator for the iPhone. The interface is pretty slick with a portion of the screen simulating the NES controller. It also comes with some of the best NES ROMS pre-installed like Super Mario Bros. and The Legend of Zelda. Unfortunately it requires several software hacks to work and even if you get that far, there's no sound and it runs pretty slower.

Patience people, all in due time.

Hollywood Top Ten Actress

Who’s the most overpaid actress in history? Could it really be Nicole Kidman???? She’s definitely not my favorite actress. The Hollywood Reporter’s annual list-06 of Hollywood’s highest-earning actresses has been released.
1. Nicole Kidman
Nicole Kidman, makes $16 mil-$17 mil. What she should be earning: -$1 mil. That's right, I'm saying that Nicole should be paying film companies to hire her, not the other way around. That's because she's poison at the box office, the female equivalent of Sean Penn. Women dislike her, men don't think she's sexy, and those Chanel ads induce nausea. My guess is Nicole's rate dates back to Sony Pictures overpaying her for that bomb Bewitched. Since then, she's been doing smaller films, but is signing for studio projects right now. Note to majors: save your $$$ and hire Reese or Angelina.

2. Reese Witherspoon
Reese Witherspoon, $15 mil. What she should be earning: $25 mil. Reese can do no wrong. Women love her, men love her, the camera loves her. And she's smart: when she was looking for a new agency, she lamented not owning her Legally Blonde character because it'll be Broadway bound. Which doesn't mean all her films are great, but she's always great in them. She opens a movie. 'Nuff said.

3. Renee Zellweger

Renee Zellweger, $15 mil. What she should be earning: $5 mil. Renee doesn't open movies, unless the material is Bridget Jones-cloned. She's fine as the wife or girlfriend, but then her price needs to be cut by a third. Worse, audiences are getting sick of her changing hair color whenever she changes parts. That's a dye job, not an acting job. Sadly, she's lost her once winning girl-next-door quality; now she's trying to be a fashion diva. Ugh.

4. Drew Barrymore

Drew Barrymore, $15 mil. What she should be asking: $3 mil. Drew has never been able to open a movie, and she never will. That doesn't mean she isn't sweet onscreen, but lately her roles have been too saccharine. If only she'd bring back that Poison Ivy edginess she once had. Women like her but they don't want to be her (or even briefly married to Tom Green), whereas men don't think she's hot anymore. Drew's price should go up when she grows up.

5. Cameron Diaz
Cameron Diaz, $15 mil. What she should be asking: $7 mil. Put her in a bikini, and she's worth it. Put her in a chick flick (In Her Shoes, The Holiday), and she's not. Everyone finds her sexy, but women don't like her. (It's jealousy. And not just because of Justin.) Plus, she simply doesn't have much range as an actress from the neck up.
6. Halle Berry

Halle Berry, $14 mil. What she should be asking: $5 mil. Once she lost her shot at launching a new franchise as 007's Jinx, she lost what should have been her biggest paydays. Alas, she's now the wrong side of 40, and Hollywood is cruel that way.
7. Charlize Theron

Charlize Theron, $10 mil. What she should be asking: $10 mil. A smart actress, surrounded by smart people, doing smart roles. Just don't fuck it up with too many vanity projects like North Country.

8. Angelina Jolie
Angelina Jolie, $10 mil. What she should be asking: $25 mil. There's no one hotter and cooler right now than Angelina onscreen and off (just ask the stalkarazzi), but that could change if she starts auditioning for sainthood by making too many message movies. Let's hope she's too bad-ass for that.
9. Kirsten Dunst
Kirsten Dunst, $8 mil-$10 mil. What she should be asking: $1 mil. Eventually, the Spider-Man franchise will end. Marie Antoinette dying in theaters didn't help her price. She was an idiot not to star in Bring It On sequels for big bucks. She's not sexy enough and she won't age well with audiences. This is a career about to end.
10. Jennifer Aniston

Jennifer Aniston, $8 mil. What she should be asking: $1 mil. She's not a movie star. She's a TV star. Big difference. Most of all, she's not an interesting actress. She can't open a movie, and her choice of material is abysmal. Sure, The Break-Up did okay business, but that was because of Vince and in spite of her. Soon she'll be lucky to score the next Lifetime movie.

Shoe With MP3 Player

WOW! PRESENTING 'D' SHOES WITH MP3 PLAYER N 900 WATTS SPEAKERS MIND BLASTING BASS ISN'T THAT AMAZING? ROCKING SPEAKERS FOOT TRAPPIN. TRULY FOR U.

The Code M System is a proprietary wireless technology application for footwear that delivers both audio and data. The initial application of the System is a shoe that delivers music to a wireless headset. The delivery system consists of two key components built into Dada shoes, offering easy access to music with no wires and no digital music device to carry. You can get refrigerators with TVs in them these days, so perhaps Dada’s new Code M mp3-playing basketball shoes—the first in their Wireless Footwear System—aren’t too ridiculous. They can broadcast your music to your wireless headphones if you want to keep your music to yourself, or play your music over the built-in speakers in the shoes if you want others to hear them.
The Code M system is integrated into the shoe’s heel and tongue. Its memory gives the device the ability to hold up to 10,000 songs with a 48-hours battery life. A USB port on the lateral side of the shoe allows downloading of music and re-charging of the battery. Another important element in the system is the wireless headset, which picks up music from the shoes as far away as 100 feet. The company plans to sell Code M products primarily through the company’s normal retail outlets, but Willis also intends to market the shoes through electronics retailers and catalogs where consumers are comfortable buying technology-based products. Suggested retail for Dada’s basketball line employing the Code M system will be $199.99.

Quit Snoring With Effective 3 Minute Exercises

After a lengthy and hard day at work and stress, it is finally time to get some rest. People need to rest to regain strength and energy. It is expected to live your life in a stress free way. This is why insufficient rest can cause many disorders and illnesses in the long run.

Are you one of those people who snores at night? Or one of your family members who does? The sound made through snoring can be very irritating, especially when you need to get some rest. Snoring can cause you and your family members long sleepless nights.

There is no need to worry anymore, since there are a lot of natural snoring cures available for those who snore. Even though there is no exact cure for snoring, there are remedieswhich can lessen or temporarily alleviate the snoring.

Snoring can cause sleep disturbances, and often it can lead to insomnia and other illness. It can also be a symptom in acquiring sleep apnea. If you snore, or a family member does, it is time for you to visit a physician. Look for medical attention to prevent any complications in occurring. Before using any anti-snoring product, please visit with your physician, since he/she is the only one who knows what works best for you and your wellness.

There are quite a number of snoring natural remedies available to the snorer. Other snoring cures to prevent or stop snoring are dental implants and medicines that have to be taken frequently. Medication on the other hand, can probably cause certain side effects. But most people use natural cures.

And this is because they don't want to undergo any surgery and avoid the possible undesirable side effects of taking too much medicine. The natural way is still seen by most people, especially now that a more holistic approach is given to almost any illness.

Going back to the holistic ways of curing certain illnesses is what many physicians call for today's changing way of life. It seems that no matter how advanced technology gets, people still can't live without the basics, as with healing the natural way.

One product available is a natural spray made from herbs which moistens the palate, throat, and uvula. The spray works immediately after you use it, and it can stop snoring for up to 8 hours.

One other natural way to stop snoring is doing special exercises at certain minutes every day. Breathing exercises are good, because it helps in the normal function of the passages associated in breathing.

Increasing Your Internet Speed.

Windows uses 20% of your bandwidth Here's how to Get it back

A nice little tweak for XP. Microsoft reserve 20% of your available bandwidth for their own purposes (suspect for updates and interrogating your machine etc..)

Here's how to get it back:

Click Start-->Run-->type "gpedit.msc" without the "

This opens the group policy editor. Then go to:

Local Computer Policy-->Computer Configuration-->Administrative Templates-->Network-->QOS Packet Scheduler-->Limit Reservable Bandwidth

Double click on Limit Reservable bandwidth. It will say it is not configured, but the truth is under the 'Explain' tab :

"By default, the Packet Scheduler limits the system to 20 percent of the bandwidth of a connection, but you can use this setting to override the default."

So the trick is to ENABLE reservable bandwidth, then set it to ZERO.

This will allow the system to reserve nothing, rather than the default 20%.

I have tested on XP Pro, and 2000.
