SONY heard the prayers regarding ps3

There’s this old saying - repeat something often enough, and people will start to believe it to be the truth. Well, guess the folks at Sony must’ve heard the prayers and rants of many Sony fanboys over the years on how the PS3 console was way too bulky, and having repeated a rumor countless times of a PS3 Slim coming our way many months ago, guess the age old adage kicked into action with Sony officially unveiling the new PS3 today, where it comes in an extremely svelte form factor. Heck, if it had been a contestant on the reality show “The Biggest Loser”, chances are pretty good the PS3 Slim would walk away as the clear winner with a couple of beauties in tow (fondling its controllers, of course). Let’s take a look at the PS3 Slim in greater detail right after the jump.
The internal design architecture of the new PS3 Slim has been revamped from ground up, changing the way the main semiconductors, power supply unit and cooling mechanism look in order to achieve what was thought to be impossible. While the original PS3 held a 60GB hard drive within, this remodeled version holds a 120GB hard drive despite trimming down its internal volume, thickness and weight to 67% of the original. Not only that, power consumption has also been reduced by one-third, further lowering the amount of fan noise in the process. You won’t find a glossy, fingerprint magnet as the surface material here since it relies on a textured surface finish instead to provide an all new impression and a casual look.
North America, Europe/PAL and Asian countries will get the new PS3 Slim from September 1st onwards, while those living in Japan will be able to pick it up a couple of days later. The 120GB PS3 Slim will retail for $299 and euro 299, depending on which region you’re at, while the current 80GB PS3 Phat will see a price drop to US$299 and euro 299 from August 18 and August 19, respectively. In addition, the 160GB PS3 Phat in the US will also see a price drop to $399 on August 18 as well. All PS3 Slims will ship with version 3.0 of the system software to keep it up to date.

Sony is bad in Keeping secrets - leaked news
Gues SONY is not good in keeping secrets as images of their new PSP Go leaks and making their rounds well ahead of the E3 announcement.
The PSP go will arrive in stores for folks living in North America this October 1, while Europe/PAL territories and Asian countries will get theirs a month later, retailing for $249 and an equivalent amount in Euros, of course. As stated earlier, the PSP go will co-exist with the PSP-3000 in retail stores as gamers as well as those who are curious learn to decide which is the best possible portable gaming system for them. What makes the PSP go different is it won’t come with any UMD drive - instead, it will ditch all disc-based content by catering to those who want on-demand entertainment, featuring 16GB of internal memory as well as the ability to receive digital entertainment via the PlayStation Network. Sounds fine and dandy, but what about less developed markets where over-the-air download speeds are excruciatingly slow? Guess those folks will just have to settle for regular PSP-3000s.
The new PSP go include an easy sliding panel alongside original applications, a game sleep function that lets you operate the XrossMediaBar while suspending gameplay for the moment, Bluetooth connectivity and a wide range of accessories to go along with it.

Max Payne 3 - coming this winter 2009
A third chapter in the popular Max Payne franchise will release this winter, according to an announcement from publisher Rockstar Games.
The publisher's Vancouver studio, the minds behind open-world action game Bully, will develop Max Payne 3 for the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
"We’re starting a new chapter of Max's life with this game," said Sam Houser, founder of Rockstar Games, in a statement. "This is Max as we’ve never seen him before, a few years older, more world-weary and cynical than ever."
The third-person game that follows the adventures of a police detective is best remembered for its Matrix-style, slow-motion shooting.

No Road ahead for the PSP Phone
The consumer electronics giant has allegedly put the kibosh on plans by its cellphone subsidiary Sony Ericsson to use the PlayStation brand to create a new handset, says Mobile magazine.
Sony Ericsson reportedly made a pitch for licensing that brand last year. The idea was to have a PSP phone that would appeal to video game loyalists of the brand and be an extension much like the Cyber-shot and Walkman handsets. Sony Ericsson representatives have not yet responded to a request for comment.
Sony is reported to have said that it will consider using the PlayStation brand for the phone only if the company can make the handsets itself, rather than license it to the Sony, Ericsson joint venture.

SONY unveils Blu-Ray Internal Writer
Sony has just released its third generation internal Blu-ray disc writer for the masses without costing too much, ensuring you get to make an affordable upgrade for a cost-effective backup solution. This new model is known as the BWU-300S, and unless you have tons of data to burn and make backup copies at home or at the office, I still think regular DVDs will suffice. After all, not every home has a Blu-ray player at this point in time, but sure as heck nearly every home with a computer is able to read DVDs, right? More on the Sony BWU-300S right after the jump.
The new BWU-300S model burns single and dual layer BD-R media at up to 8X speed, recording a full 25GB disc in about 15 minutes and a full 50GB disc in about 30 minutes. The 8X recording speed is achieved using 6X compatible BD-R media. The drive also records DVDs at up to 16X, CDs up to 48X, and supports DVD-RAM recording, with an eye towards data backup, making it an excellent replacement burner for a standard DVD drive while offering all the benefits of Blu-ray Disc technology. The BWU-300S drive can record up to 50GB of data for random access storage and backup on BD-R (write once) or BD-RE (rewritable) discs, or up to 230 minutes of high-definition HDV 1080i video on a BD-R/RE 50GB disc. It also supports recording on standard single layer 4.7GB DVD+-R/+-RW/-RAM discs, 8.5GB DVD+-R double/dual layer discs, and CDs. The internal drive features a Serial ATA (SATA) interface and standard 5.25-inch form-factor for easy installation inside a desktop PC with Microsoft Windows XP or Windows Vista operating systems. Also included with the drive is CyberLink’s software suite for capturing, authoring, editing, burning and viewing high-definition personal content.
This $400 drive is not all about work though, since you get to have some fun by sampling a Blu-ray movie if you haven’t yet got the high definition bug. Each purchase comes with a Blu-ray version of Men in Black - an old film (by today’s standards) that is still as entertaining as it was when released many years ago. Compared to the regular DVD version, this Blu-ray version features advanced BD-Live enabled bonus features such as a multiplayer trivia game, an interactive Frank the Pug advice generator and an alien subtitle track among others.
