Gears of War Lancer Rifle Replicas

It appears the Gears of War franchise is bigger than I thought as I found not one, but two products that are Gears of War related today.

First is the Gears of War themed Zune, which not only sports specially designed graphics on the frame, but it comes pre-loaded with 240 pieces of Gears of War and its sequel’s media including “the original game soundtrack, behind-the-scenes videos, game trailers, concept art galleries, and more”. All of this content is exclusive to this Microsoft MP3 Player.

Of course, if you really want to live Gears of War, you can always purchase the Lancer rifle, a virtual prop from the game now turned real. As you can see by the fake blood on the saw edge of this, this is no children’s toy. However, it does have one fun feature as it can vibrate, and even has a chainsaw sound.

The Gears of War 2 game is slated for release on November 7th, and this is the same day the Gears of War Zune is planned to be released. It should be about $280 for this special edition.

As for the Lancer rifle, it costs about $140, or $210 with a limited edition of Gears of War 2. It should be available sometime next month.

Monkeys as Waiters - Strange Restuarant

You expect to see something a little strange from time to time while traveling through Asia, but one establishment has something to really shock you.

Kayabuki, a Japanese tavern in Utsunomiya, recently employed 2 Macaques monkeys to act as waiters. Fuku is 12 years-old and Yat is a young 4 years of age and both seem to enjoy their new work.

Kaoru Otsuka, owner of the tavern, says the 2 monkeys are their household pets, but one day he noticed one of them mimicking a waiter by giving the customer a hot towel in the restaurant. Mr. Otsuka thought it would be an interesting idea to have them actually serve the customers.

Both monkeys works 2 hours a day, serving drinks and handing customer hot towels.They don’t seem to mind the work and are happy to do it in exchange for some Edamame (soybeans) from the customers as tip.

The monkey waiters have done such a good job and brought so much business to the restaurant, Mr. Otsuka admits they’re better than his real son at the job.

Mammals facing Threat of Extinction

According to a survey 25% of the mammals are on the verge of extinction. The Red List of Threatened Species says populations of more than half of mammalian species are falling, with Asian primates particularly at risk. The main cause of this due to the deforestation. Red list for the current year checked with 5,487 mammals and out of this 1,141 are identified to be on the very verge to disappearance.

The Red List is published approximately once every year. Although designed as the definitive global list of threatened species, in practice the rankings come from assessments covering different types of plants and animals, and some areas of the list will be more up to date than others.

Nokia's Headset Design Contest

If you’re tired of having the same old boring headphones, then you’ll love the new Nokia contest going on. They’ve decided to have a contest where designers enter cool headsets that definitely are outside of the box. Which means you get to check out all of the bizarre, but fun designs. Some are very cool but when you consider that Nokia will be creating some of them, they just seem a bit over the top. Like the odd set of headphones shown here. Yes, I agree that they make for a pretty picture, but I’m not putting those on my head.

The top five designers will see their designs being created and sold. The nice thing is that you get to vote on the designs, so if the over the top designs are too much for you just vote for the simpler designs and there are some of those too. However, if you’re ready to see headphones take a more artistic plunge then of course you can lean towards the eccentric styles. The contest just started and will actually run until the end of the year. Anyone can enter and hopefully you’ll still be able to enter your odd designs if you’re up for the challenge.
