RC Jump Jet - Takes off like a Harrier

The RC Jump Jet is something different from the standard remote controlled planes and helicopters as it merges the best of both worlds.

It takes off like a helicopter and flies like a plane, using four gyroscopically controlled rotors and a not an inconsiderable amount of flying skill. The swept back wafer thin wings and tail help to control the stability of forward flight, and the multi-directional control allows you to fly in any direction you can think of, and often a few you hadn’t expected. Saying that this is cool is like saying Ricky Gervais is mildly amusing, or that Tiger Woods is quite handy at crazy golf. It’s really quite hard to describe (which is why we’re failing so miserably) just how awesome this indoor flier is. The way it moves through the air makes the Harrier look clumsy - even if it does have more weapons. To keep it light and balanced, the bodywork has been stripped to a minimum, and a twenty minute charge should give you a good ten minutes of the best indoor flying experience you’ve ever had.

The RC Jump Jet is supposedly easy to fly, and you’ll need to fork out £69.95 to find out. Well, it definitely is compared to the real deal, but being unconventional by itself will probably involve a rather steep learning curve, but I’m sure it’ll be fun once you get the hang of it.

This summer download Videos on your Playstation 3

Video is the next big thing in the web content sphere and is all set to come to the PS3 this summer, at least this is what the LA Times reported on the 21st of this month. The PS3 users might be able to download videos, movies and even TV shows with Sony’s new online service. The LA Times also reported that Sony is in talk with a number of studios for hosting and sharing content for this video download service. All this will make the Sony PS3 a complete entertainment device as a few million PS3’s are already being used by gamers worldwide. By this service, Sony aims to sell entertainment content to all these gamers to bolster it’s huge entertainment business. This service could also be in response to Microsoft’s Live Sense service that aims to integrate the Windows Operating system, Windows Live and Windows Mobile service. Till Sony makes an official announcement, all we can do is to wait.

Plug-and-Play Storage in Game Consoles - Iomega

Since not everyone has enough technical know-how to properly connect an ordinary external USB hard drive to an Xbox 360 or Playstation 3, Iomega has announced the immediate availability of its new 160GB Media Xporter Drive. Iomega says that its wallet-sized drive has been tested for seamless compatibility with the game consoles to eliminate the guesswork often involved in transcoding file formats and the nonsense that goes along with it.

Users simply fill the drive with music, photos, and movies (conversion software is included) and plug the Xporter's USB 2.0 "Y" cable into the Xbox/Playstation's USB 2.0 port. Done. The console is now able to play an entire media library in HDTV resolutions up to 1080p.

For gamers who are more familiar with controllers than keyboards (not all game geeks are computer geeks, after all), the Media Xporter promises a simple way to get media on their consoles. That, one hopes, should justify its $114 retail price, which is close to double what a generic 160GB USB drive costs.

It's a bird? Its a plane? No its FLOGOS

Thinking of going outside to escape the barrage of advertisements targeting you online, on TV, and in print? Well, if someone's shelled out $2,500 to rent a Flogo machine today, then don't look up. Those aren't clouds that look like an Apple logo or a Mickey Mouse head.

They're Flogos, a mysterious mix of soap-based foam and gases like helium that can be generated into 24-, 36-, and 48-inch shapes limited only by the human imagination. Presumably a portmanteau of the words "float" and "logo," each Flogo can travel up to 30 miles, float as high as 20,000 feet, and keep its shape for anywhere between a few minutes to an hour, depending on formulation.

World's Largest Observation Wheel - Singapore Flyer

The "Singapore Flyer", the country's newest observation wheel, opened on Tuesday and is set to rival the London Eye.

The Singapore Flyer stands at around 165 meters tall, and bills itself as the world's largest giant observation wheel. The London Eye is slightly lower, at around 135 meters. The Singapore Flyer boasts of around 28-capsules each capable of carrying 28 people.

Officials say the wheel is completely different from the London Eye which is built on a three-dimensional structure. Passengers can expect pay 22 US dollars for a 30-minute ride on the new wheel.

300K $ watch that doesn't tell the time

How many times have you sat and pondered whether or not it was daylight outside? Unless you spend the better part of your days living underground, chances are that you don’t think about this very often. Sure, when you’re sitting in a cubicle after hours it may cross your mind, but is that enough to justify a watch that solely tells you whether the sun is up or down?

Apparently for some people it’s worth coughing up $300,000 for a watch that does just that. Part of the reason that it is so expensive is that it is a unique timepiece that used Tourbillon movement, which is supposed to overcome the limitations imposed on the accuracy of watches by the earth’s gravity.

Sure, that sounds interesting and all, however, that’s not enough to justify spending $300k on a watch. Especially one the doesn’t even tell the time.

Paper airplane to be launched from Space

Any kid who’s ever made a paper airplane has dreamed of throwing it off a tall skyscraper to see how far it can actually fly. And at least one kid who grew up to become a professor at Tokyo University’s Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics has held onto that dream. But why stop at tall buildings or even mountains? Shinji Suzuki currently heads up a project that wants to launch paper airplanes from space, and see how they survive the trip back to Earth.

The first issue that comes to mind is that the real space shuttle requires bleeding-edge, heat-resistant tiles in order to survive the trip home. How would a paper airplane even have a chance? Well the origami paper they intend to use is made of sugar cane fibers sprayed with a special coating making them resistant to heat, wind and water. Shockingly, a 2.8 inch long prototype has survived speeds of Mach 7 and temperatures up to 446 degrees Fahrenheit in a hypersonic wind tunnel. So believe it or not, the plane could probably survive a trip through Earth’s upper atmosphere.

The actual paper airplane they intend to launch will be about 8 inches long, 4 inches wide and weighs about 1.05 ounces. Their last big hurdle before the ‘launch’ is to find a way to reliably track the airplane once it has been released. Otherwise the $300,000 in funding they get each year for the project will be wasted if they aren’t able to learn anything from the flight.

Ipod Amplificator - Phonophone 2

Phonofone II might appear to have closer ties to the RCA brand, it’s actually designed to complement your iPod with its sleek, white, ceramic finish. Designed by Tristan Zimmermann, what’s truly unique about this speaker is that it doesn’t contain any electronics whatsoever, but relies on your iPod’s earbuds as its analog audio source.

Instead of connecting it directly to the headphone jack like with most speakers, you actually leave your earphones connected and place them in the Phonofone’s resonance chamber. Using the virtues of horn acoustics, the speaker promises to boost the audio output coming from those earphones up to 55 decibels, or roughly equivalent to the max volume on a pair of laptop speakers. But instead of getting “trebly buzzing” as the website accurately describes it, you get warm, resonant sound.

The speaker should be available sometime in April from Unica Home for the tidy sum of $500.
